The Story

In 1971, Morrill Worcester laid the foundation for what would become a lasting legacy of family and community enterprise in Downeast Maine. Together with his wife, Karen, he built a network of businesses rooted in integrity, hard work, and love for both people and place. What began as a small balsam wreath operation grew into Worcester Wreath Company, known nationwide for its hand-crafted Maine balsam products that bring the scent and spirit of Maine and the holidays to homes across the country.

Over the decades, the Worcester family’s entrepreneurial spirit flourished, expanding into ventures that serve both their local community and beyond. Worcester Peat Company provides quality peat and soil products to support agricultural and landscaping industries, while County Concrete & Asphalt delivers dependable construction materials and services that help build and maintain the roads, foundations, and structures that keep rural Maine thriving. Each business reflects the same core values that have guided the Worcester family from the beginning — faith, fairness, and a deep commitment to the people of Washington County and beyond.

In 1992, Morrill and a small group of volunteers traveled to Arlington National Cemetery with 5,000 surplus wreaths to honor the fallen. That simple act of remembrance inspired what would later become Wreaths Across America, a national movement dedicated to honoring and remembering veterans each December. For the Worcesters, the mission of Wreaths Across America is not just a program — it’s an extension of their belief in service, community, and gratitude for the freedoms we all share.

When visiting Columbia Falls, Maine, you’ll immediately feel that spirit of patriotism and family. Along the roadside, visitors are greeted by the powerful sight of the Pledge of Allegiance proudly displayed — a daily reminder of the values that define the Worcester legacy.

In 2022, they built The Cabins, a collection of 52 cozy and picturesque Maine cabins nestled among the balsam trees, offering guests a peaceful retreat that captures the beauty and hospitality of the region. Nearby, Liberty Takeout South West BBQ welcomes visitors and locals alike to share a good meal and good company.

At the heart of this growing campus stands a small but cherished gathering place — a nondenominational chapel built as a space for reflection, unity, and faith. The chapel holds Saturday evening services, with a potluck dinner prior designed to bring neighbors together without interfering with local Sunday worship schedules. The chapel is open and free to use for funerals, weddings, and gatherings of all kinds, serving as a place where joy and comfort can be shared freely among friends, families, and visitors.

Today, the Worcester family’s story continues through their children and grandchildren, who have each found ways to contribute to the family’s many endeavors. Whether through manufacturing, construction, hospitality, or community service, their shared mission remains the same: to honor tradition, foster opportunity, and give back to the people and land that have shaped their lives. From wreaths that grace veterans’ graves to the cabins and chapel that welcome visitors from near and far, the Worcester family’s businesses stand as a testament to what can be built when faith, family, and community come together.
